After years of working together, Sydney musicians Emma Davis and Brian Campeau have finally teamed up for a co-headline tour this November. Each with shiny new singles in tow, the pair of musical friends will hit the east coast, bringing their distinct brands of storytelling with them.
Emma Davis
The two first met backstage at a show, when after several beers and a lot of sarcasm, Brian agreed to help make Emma's first record. Co-produced in his home-made Newtown studio, the album went on to receive national radio play and glowing reviews for its deft guitar work, careful production and honest storytelling. Described by Triple J as one of the "great quiet achievers of the Sydney scene", the London-born songwriter went on to support the likes of Husky, Matt Corby and Andy Bull, had singles featured in nationwide television ads and was chosen as a finalist for the 2011 FBi SMAC awards.
This September, after a year off to travel and write, Emma flew to Cairns to work with producer and musician Mark Myers (The Middle East, The Starry Field) and record her latest offerings.
Brian Campeau
Celebrated for his powerful voice, unique instrumentation, unusual arrangements and organic, left-field production, Brian Campeau is no regular singer-songwriter. In 2009 he released Mostly Winter Sometimes Spring, a full-length record based entirely on the idea of using only one instrument for each song. The record received rave reviews (Drum Media hailed him a “Genuine Genius”) and led to extensive tours throughout Australia and a notable support for Joanna Newsom. His most recent venture was as musical director of the only Australian release of Beck’s Song Reader, arranging Beck's never-recorded tracks for musicians including Josh Pyke, Thomas Rawle (Papa Vs Pretty) and Elana Stone. When he's not writing his own music, composing for television or producing others, the Sydney music man can be found performing with garage-grass outfit The Green Mohair Suits.
Opening the night will be Alyx Dennison.
