Sydney Jazz Orchestra

Since its formation a few short years ago, the 17 piece Sydney Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of saxophonist/composer/arranger Tim Oram, has gained an enviable reputation for the ensemble’s brilliant execution of dynamics to full effect, and the development of a continually evolving repertoire that never fails to produce the unexpected.

From start to finish every Sydney Jazz Orchestra gig encompasses superlative section work, powerful and cohesive full ensemble playing, stunning individual soloists and brilliant arrangements from some of the world’s renowned writers together with Tim Oram’s own compositions . This is an ensemble that re-images great music with skill and clarity.

For its debut gig at Foundry 616, the SJO features a lineup from the top end of town and all seventeen of them are committed to perform music of the highest level . Two sizzling sets will include snatches of Coltrane. a hip arrangement of Lennon-McCartney’s “Eleanor Rigby” , the Vince Mendoza arrangement of the Yellowjacket’s “Downtown” , and Weather Report’s “Teen Town” featuring bassist Nick Sinclair . And everything else in between.

This is an opportunity to get up close and personal with the finest big band in Australia for an unforgettable musical experience.
