“Two pianos Play Jazzical” is a creative collaboration between two talented musicians who believe that piano music doesn’t always have to be purely classical. Elen Rapoport and Alex Parkmen make the worlds of jazz and classical music collide in an expressive artistic explosion. Their flawless high-velocity playing and formidable abilities behind the keys seamlessly blur the boundaries between classical and experimental form. And just like love, music collaboration is all about chemistry and connection. Not only Elen and Alex are in harmony together energetically, they also draw upon each other’s strength and emotional power to dazzle listeners with their brilliant technique and mesmerising artistry.
Elen Rapoport, a former child prodigy, was born in Krasnodar, Russia, and started to play piano from the age of four. When she turned seven, Elen was selected to attend the prestigious Tchaikovsky Special Music School for gifted children in Moscow. After graduating from the Gnesin Musical Pedagogic Institute (now the Russian Musical Academy) Elen undertook further study at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey. In 2001, Elen moved to Sydney, Australia. During her successful career Elen has won numerous awards in international piano competitions and has held concerts in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA.
Alex Parkmen is an eclectic improvisational pianist and a prolific composer. Drawing on his classical training at the Kiev Conservatorium Alex introduces elements of jazz, blues, and funk to create quirky, delightful, melodies that are distinctly his own. A former contestant in “Australia’s got talent” this extraordinary pianist spends most of his time showcasing his talent around the world.
This newly formed duo is certainly a charming and timely addition to the Australian music scene. Come join them for an evening of pure entertainment, visual delights, and utter piano shenanigans.
