Adam Page, Practical Workshop Presenter
Proudly co-presented by ASME SA, Musica Viva In Schools and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, this not-to-be missed symposium is for primary and secondary music specialists, and teachers interested in innovative approaches to teaching classroom music. Teachers attending this symposium will receive a Professional Development certificate.
James Humberstone, Keynote Speaker
James Humberstone - composer, technologist and teacher - shares his thoughts on how learning has changed, and how there isn't a more experimental, creative and child-centred subject than music to lead all education through the challenges of the 21st Century classroom. Be inspired as together you explore inquiry-based learning in music, innovation in pedagogy, alternative approaches to composition and music extension activities.
James Humberstone's output is influenced by his research background in experimental music. Born in London, Humberstone migrated to Australia in 1997 after completing a degree in composition at the University of Exeter. By combining postgraduate studies in composition and experimental music with education qualifications, Humberstone developed an approach to combining new and challenging music for children with supportive resources. In 2013 he became a lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and today works in the fields of composition, music education and technology research. For nine years he has been Director of Applications and Education at Sibelius Software. He is a leading advocate for the prominent inclusion of the arts in education. (Photo credit - Bill Frakes).
