“The story of Punk-Folk, acoustic music with an attitude”.

What makes the clean cut son of a Baptist minister growing up in a typical Australian suburb in the 1970’s turn into a Larrikin musician?

Answer…

The Ramones, the Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols and The Clash.

Most people I knew when I was 19 were listening to Toto or Donna Summers Disco.

For me there was something about the “Punk” sound that made me feel connected. All that angry energy, anything but pure & simple.

Ok, my Punk-folk show isn’t PUNK!

It’s acoustic guitars, banjo, mandolin, piano and my raunchy vocals.

In the show Punk-folk are stories about growing up in a sheltered and stifling family where music was forbidden fruit.

Other humorous tall tales are woven in between songs about all the great wonderfully misplaced people I’ve met on the road as a working musician.

Punk-Folk is a comical look at what happens when we break free of a conservative religious upbringing and how music is what feelings sound like.

I have been a professional musician for just over forty years. I’ve travelled Australia and parts of the world working on the streets as a busker.

As well as thousands of shows in Pubs, clubs, cruisers and my own small theatre shows such as “THIRST” that toured to the Mullumbimby Drill Theatre, Macksville Music Station, Matilda street Art Gallery, 6th Toe Theatre in South West Rocks.

Lorren Deborah

I live and raise my kids near the pebbly beach of Old Bar. I work as a nurse in Taree and play music on street corners and local markets of the Midcoast. I write songs on the go, like finding feathers, I never know when the next one will appear.

The music that captures me has language grounded in the physical: it is the picture-language of Folk music. Music across the ages in this discipline of retelling is my inspiration for playing and songwriting. Folk music and its poetry is a dream language of things and associations. With music I am way-finding into dream language, a language that is native to the soul.
