Current Composer in Residence at Gallop House, Melbourne-based pianist/composer Gemma Turvey joins Kidogo Spring Concert Series for an enchanting evening that effortlessly blurs the lines of jazz, folk and classical music, featuring special guests Rob Zielinski (fiddle), Louise McKay (cello), and the inimitable Lucky Oceans (pedal-steel guitar). Be transported with Gemma's arrangement of Jimmy Webb's The Moon’s A Harsh Mistress, themes from Rob Zielinski’s new song cycle Torbay, evocative works from Gemma’s album Landscapes for a Mind’s Eye and Arvo Parts transcendent Spiegel im Spiegel.

Gemma is founder and Artistic Director of the New Palm Court Orchestra (NPCO) based in Melbourne. She currently performs principally as pianist and ensemble leader of the NPCO. She is also pianist and arranger to Gorgi Coghlan (The Project, Channel 10) and has worked with singers Kate Miller-Heidke, Tina Arena and Kristin Berardi. Gemma has initiated collaborations with artists including multi-Grammy Award winning cellist Eugene Friesen for his Australian debut with NPCO in 2014, premiere vocal ensemble the Consort of Melbourne, renowned exponent of Brazilian guitar Doug de Vries, and award winning countertenor Maximillian Riebl, and given repeat standout performances at Melbourne Recital Centre Salon, Sydney Opera House Utzon Room and Melbourne’s iconic Bennett’s Lane. Gemma is a Yamaha Artist, and is also a proud ambassador of The Florey Brains Trust, supporting ground-breaking brain research.
